Butterfly Valley (Kelebekler Vadisi), located just south of Ölüdeniz in Fethiye, is a pristine natural canyon accessible mainly by boat. Surrounded by 350-meter-high cliffs and home to dozens of butterfly species—including the Jersey tiger moth—the valley gets its name from the vibrant butterfly populations that thrive here in early summer.
This secluded bay offers a peaceful escape from crowded beaches. With no roads leading in, the journey itself becomes part of the adventure—visitors usually arrive via water taxi or on a boat tour from Ölüdeniz. The beach features crystal-clear waters, ideal for swimming and snorkeling, and a rustic camping area with hammocks, wooden bungalows, and eco-friendly facilities.
A short hike inland reveals a small waterfall and lush vegetation, while the tranquility of the valley makes it a perfect retreat for nature lovers, hikers, and those seeking a digital detox.
How to Get There:
Butterfly Valley is accessible only by boat. The most common route is via water taxi or daily boat tours departing from Ölüdeniz Beach. Private tours and sea kayaks are also an option for experienced paddlers.
Best Time to Visit:
Visit from May to September for the best chance to see butterflies and enjoy the calm waters. Early morning and late afternoon offer the most peaceful atmosphere and best lighting for photos.
