Bursa Archaeological Museum offer a captivating journey through the rich history and culture of Bursa, a city at the crossroads of Asia and Europe. Established in 1904, the museum has grown to become one of the most significant cultural institutions in Turkey.
With over 60,000 artifacts, the museum showcases the region’s historical importance from prehistoric times to the present day. The exhibitions are thoughtfully organized to provide a chronological understanding of Bursa’s past.
The Miocene Epoch-Phrygian Kingdom Hall presents a fascinating array of archaeological discoveries, including fossils from the Middle Miocene period, Paleolithic Age finds, and items from various historical periods. Notable artifacts include those from the Hittite civilization, Urartu Kingdom, Phrygian Kingdom, and Protogeometric period.
The Stone Artefacts Hall boasts a stunning collection of marble and stone pieces, as well as bronze statues like the Apollo and Athena. The hall also features grave stelae, sculptures, sarcophagi, friezes, and more.
Hall II offers a comprehensive journey through the Archaic Age to the Eastern Roman (Byzantine) period. Artefacts found in Bursa and its surroundings are showcased in chronological order, providing insight into the area’s evolving culture and history. Roman Glass Works, oil lamps, metal artifacts, seals, ornaments, and medical instruments are also on display.
One of the highlights is the Üçpınar Tumulus Chariot Finds Hall, where you can explore a reconstructed Akhamenids-period tumulus. It includes chariot parts and horse harnesses found in situ, as well as a reconstructed chariot from that era and Greco-Persian-style grave stelae.
