Nestled about 22 km southwest of Selçuk, Kuşadası is a bustling coastal town, famous as both a cruise-ship port and a lively holiday resort. While it can sometimes feel overwhelmed by English-style pubs, karaoke bars, and souvenir shops, the charm of Kuşadası still shines through, especially outside the high season. Beyond the busy waterfront, visitors discover beautiful beaches, an old Ottoman caravanserai, and the historic Kaleiçi neighborhood with narrow streets full of restaurants and bars.
Kuşadası gets its name, meaning “Bird Island,” from the picturesque Güvercin Adası (Pigeon Island), connected to the mainland by a scenic causeway. The island, crowned by a small stone fortress, is a popular spot for evening strolls. In addition, the famous Kadınlar Denizi (Ladies Beach) and quieter beaches along the coast offer refreshing escapes from the city’s energy.
With its central location, vibrant nightlife, and easy access to ancient cities like Ephesus, Priene, Miletus, and Didyma, Kuşadası remains a favorite base for travelers seeking both relaxation and adventure along Türkiye’s Aegean coast.
