Just 18 kilometers from the vibrant heart of Bodrum lies Gümüşlük, a charming coastal village that has preserved its tranquil spirit despite the rapid development elsewhere along the Turkish Riviera.
Nestled around a sheltered natural harbor, Gümüşlük benefits from strict building regulations that protect its authentic village atmosphere. Although new constructions are limited within the village itself, some hillside developments across the bay are a reminder of the region’s ongoing battle against unchecked growth.
What to See & Do in Gümüşlük
Gümüşlük offers one of the most rewarding day trips from Bodrum. Whether you’re looking to spend a leisurely day swimming, hiking up the surrounding headlands for panoramic views, or enjoying a long, relaxed meal by the waterfront, Gümüşlük delivers.
The ancient city of Myndos, once a powerful Carian settlement, now survives only in scattered ruins, mostly visible on Tavşan Island (Rabbit Island). You can reach the island by wading through shallow waters directly from the shore near the popular Fenerci Restaurant—an experience that adds a hint of adventure to your visit.
To the south of the village, a long stretch of beach offers a laid-back alternative to Bodrum’s busier shores. While parts of the beach are a little weedy, the sea is clear and inviting, perfect for a refreshing swim away from the crowds.
Dining in Gümüşlük
Gümüşlük is renowned for its seafood restaurants, many of which line the picturesque waterfront. Dining here, especially during sunset, is an unforgettable experience. Fresh fish, octopus, and meze plates dominate the menus, accompanied by spectacular views over the glittering bay.
Getting to Gümüşlük
Gümüşlük is easily accessible by dolmuş (minibus) from Bodrum, with services running approximately every half hour.
➔ Bodrum – Gümüşlük: €1.40 | Journey time: 30–40 minutes
➔ Turgutreis – Gümüşlük: €1 | Journey time: 15 minutes
Please note that vehicles are not allowed into the village center; however, a convenient municipal parking area (approx. €2.75 for 12 hours) is available about 300 meters from the waterfront.
The last dolmuş back to Bodrum typically departs around midnight in peak season (around 10 PM in off-season months).
Whether you come for a lazy afternoon swim, a golden-hour stroll, or a seafood dinner under the stars, Gümüşlük offers a timeless slice of the Aegean lifestyle.
