An Intimate Ottoman Pavilion in Yıldız Park

Çadır Köşkü is one of the lesser-known yet most evocative Ottoman pavilions in Istanbul, quietly located within Yıldız Park, overlooking the Bosphorus from a secluded green setting. The pavilion was commissioned during the reign of Sultan Abdülaziz in the mid-19th century, a period when the Ottoman court increasingly favored smaller pavilions and garden structures over monumental palace complexes. Its name, Çadır (tent), refers not to a literal tent but to the pavilion’s light, elegant architectural language, inspired by imperial tents traditionally used during military campaigns and ceremonial gatherings.

Built as part of the broader Yıldız Palace and garden complex, Çadır Köşkü functioned as a resting and reception space, allowing the sultan and his entourage to withdraw into nature while still remaining close to the imperial center.
