History of Beylerbeyi Palace
The palace was built during the reign of Sultan Abdülaziz (1861–1876).
It was designed by the famous Ottoman architects Sarkis Balyan and Agop Balyan, replacing an earlier wooden palace on the same site.
Beylerbeyi Palace was used primarily as a summer residence and as a place to host foreign dignitaries and state guests.
In the later period, Sultan Abdülhamid II lived here after his deposition in 1909 and remained in the palace until his death in 1918.
