Located in the heart of Türkiye’s Mediterranean Region, Adana, Turkiye is a dynamic city where ancient civilizations meet the vibrant energy of modern life. As the fifth-largest city in Türkiye, Adana stands along the Seyhan River, framed by the lush Çukurova (Cilician) plain and watched over by the majestic Taurus Mountains. This region has been continuously inhabited since the Hittites, and later by Romans, Byzantines, and Ottomans, making it one of Türkiye’s most historically layered destinations.

Adana is perhaps most famous for its mouth-watering Adana kebab, served piping hot in bustling kebab houses that line its old streets. But beyond the food, the city offers a deep dive into history through landmarks like the Stone Bridge (Taşköprü)—one of the world’s oldest continuously used bridges— and the Sabancı Central Mosque, an architectural marvel blending classical Ottoman design with modern lines.
For those interested in archaeology and culture, the Adana Archaeology Museum and Ethnography Museum provide insight into the region’s Anatolian and Mediterranean heritage. Don’t miss a stroll through Atatürk Park, or a visit to the Great Clock Tower (Büyük Saat), the tallest of its kind in Türkiye.
Adana is also known for its cultural festivals such as the Golden Boll Film Festival (Altın Koza), drawing creatives and cinephiles from across the country and beyond. The local bazaars are filled with copperware, hand-woven textiles, and flavorsome spices, reflecting the city’s multicultural soul.
Whether you’re chasing ancient legends, culinary delights, or riverside serenity, Adana invites you to explore its streets and stories.
How to Get There
Adana is easily accessible via Adana Şakirpaşa Airport (ADA), which offers both domestic and limited international flights. The city is also a major stop on Türkiye’s southern railway line and connected by intercity buses from most major cities. From Istanbul, flights take about 1.5 hours; by road, it’s approximately 9 hours.
Best Time to Visit
The best time to visit Adana is during spring (April–May) and autumn (September–October) when the weather is warm but comfortable. Summers can be extremely hot, with temperatures often exceeding 40°C (104°F), while winters are mild and relatively dry.
