Turbes Museum

The Istanbul Turbes Museum is a unique cultural institution that preserves and presents the mausoleums (türbes) of important figures from Ottoman and Islamic history. Established in 1978 under the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Istanbul Turbes Museum Directorate is responsible for protecting dozens of historical tombs located throughout the city.

Turbes Museum

These mausoleums belong to sultans, royal family members, scholars, statesmen, and spiritual leaders who played a significant role in shaping the history of Istanbul and the Ottoman Empire. Many of them are architectural masterpieces reflecting classical Ottoman design, decorated with tiles, calligraphy, and elegant domes.

Some of the most famous tombs under the museum’s supervision include the mausoleums of Suleiman the Magnificent, Hurrem Sultan, Fatih Sultan Mehmed, and Eyüp Sultan. Visiting these sites allows travelers to experience a quieter and more spiritual side of Istanbul beyond the city’s famous mosques and palaces.

Today, the Turbes Museum Directorate manages a large number of tombs located in different districts such as Fatih, Eyüp, Üsküdar, Beşiktaş, and Eminönü.

Below is the list of tombs maintained by the Istanbul Turbes Museum Directorate.
