Yedigöller Tabiat Parkı – Bolu, Türkiye
Nestled in the heart of the Western Black Sea region, Yedigöller Tabiat Parkı is one of Türkiye’s most treasured natural parks, famed for its tranquil atmosphere, seven serene lakes, and dense forest landscapes. Located within the boundaries of Bolu Province, this enchanting nature park offers visitors a breathtaking display of biodiversity, scenic trails, and year-round natural beauty.
A Paradise of Seven Lakes
The name “Yedigöller” translates to “Seven Lakes,” and true to its name, the park is home to seven distinct lakes: Büyükgöl, Deringöl, Seringöl, Nazlıgöl, Sazlıgöl, İncegöl, and Küçükgöl. Formed as a result of landslides and tectonic activity, these lakes are interconnected by streams and small waterfalls, creating a harmonious and photogenic landscape. The lakes vary in size and depth, each reflecting the surrounding forest like mirrors—especially stunning during the fall season when the trees explode into shades of orange, red, and gold.
Geography and Climate
Located at an average altitude of 780 meters, the park lies on the north-facing slopes of the Köroğlu Mountains. The terrain is hilly and forested, shaped by glacial and tectonic forces. The climate is typically humid continental, with snowy winters and mild summers. In winter, the park becomes a snowy wonderland ideal for peaceful treks and landscape photography. In spring and summer, it transforms into a vibrant ecosystem full of life.
Just south of Yedigöller lies Nature Park, a smaller yet equally charming retreat centered around a picturesque man-made lake. Framed by fir and pine trees, Yedigöller is a popular spot for day-trippers, honeymooners, and nature lovers seeking peace and serenity.
Flora: A Forest Symphony
Yedigöller Tabiat Parkı is covered by a dense mixed forest consisting primarily of oak, beech, fir, spruce, alder, and hornbeam trees. The park is particularly celebrated in autumn when the deciduous trees blanket the forest floor in a mosaic of vibrant leaves. In spring, wildflowers including cyclamens, orchids, and violets begin to bloom, adding color to the underbrush and meadows.
Mosses and ferns thrive in the park’s cool, damp corners, while mushrooms of various types appear during the wet seasons, attracting foragers and fungi photographers alike.
Fauna: A Wild Sanctuary
This rich ecosystem supports a wide range of wildlife. Mammals such as red deer, roe deer, wild boars, foxes, badgers, and even brown bears inhabit the park. The lakes attract otters and turtles, while the skies are patrolled by eagles, hawks, owls, and woodpeckers. Birdwatchers will be delighted by the presence of over 100 bird species, some of which are endemic or migratory.
For those interested in aquatic life, the lakes host native fish species, and anglers can fish in designated areas with proper permits.
Activities and Attractions
The park offers a variety of outdoor activities:
Hiking: Several well-marked trails of various lengths and difficulties allow visitors to explore the park at their own pace.
Photography: The reflections in the lakes, wildlife, and autumn foliage make this park a favorite spot for nature photographers.
Camping: Both tent and caravan camping are available, with designated campgrounds offering basic amenities.
Picnicking: Many visitors enjoy a family picnic with the soothing backdrop of chirping birds and rustling leaves.
Winter Hiking & Snow Photography: Snowshoeing and peaceful walks under a blanket of snow provide a magical winter experience.
Conservation and Protection
Yedigöller was designated a National Park in 1965 and later included in the category of “Nature Park” to emphasize its ecological importance. Strict environmental protections help preserve its flora and fauna, and human activities are monitored to ensure sustainability. Visitors are encouraged to follow eco-friendly practices, including using designated trails and properly disposing of waste.

From major cities like Ankara and İstanbul, Bolu is accessible via the D-100 highway or TEM (E80) motorway, followed by a detour into the forest roads toward the park.
