Narman Peribacaları, locally known as Kızıl Periler, are one of the most striking natural formations in Erzurum Province, located near the town of Narman in Eastern Türkiye. Unlike the fairy chimneys of Cappadocia, these formations are distinguished by their deep red and orange hues, shaped over millions of years by erosion, wind, and seasonal water flow.
Formed primarily from soft sedimentary rocks rich in iron minerals, the landscape has been sculpted into sharp ridges, cones, and narrow valleys. The intense red coloration becomes especially vivid at sunrise and sunset, giving the area an almost otherworldly appearance. This unique geology makes Narman Peribacaları one of the most photogenic natural sites in Eastern Anatolia.
The area is protected as a natural site and offers visitors a raw, open-air environment with minimal development, preserving its authentic character. Walking through the formations allows visitors to closely observe erosion patterns, layered rock textures, and the interaction between climate and geology. The silence and vastness of the landscape add to its immersive experience.
Narman Peribacaları is ideal for travelers seeking lesser-known natural wonders, geology enthusiasts, photographers, and nature lovers. Easily accessible yet still relatively undiscovered, it provides a powerful contrast to Erzurum’s monumental stone architecture and enriches the region’s eco-tourism potential.
