Turkey is a great country for solo travelers since most hotels and pensions have a per head charge or offer discounts for lone travelers; only rarely will you have to pay the full price of a double( except at the Hilton Sheraton and their ilk). However, single Travelers do need to develop a thick skin as most Turks couldn’t conceive of going anywhere alone (except, perhaps, on business). Wherever you go you will have people double-checking with you that you are really alone and expecting you to justify your solitary status.
If you, too, are having doubts about solitude then Turkey's many small pensions are great places to meet potential traveling companions, as are the hostels in Istanbul.
Loan women inevitably have a harder time of it, although the problems rarely go much further than the occasional unsolicited knock on the hotel door It's midnight; for more information
