A big agora (market place), gymnasium (sports school, training area), Hera and Demeter temples were located as large public buildings in the lower city besides these structures in upper city (acropolis). This part of the city was the living space of the citizens of Bergama. North of the lower city was surrounded by Hera and Demeter temples.
Gymnasiums were one of the important structures in the lower city. Three gymnasiums aligned from north to south were aligned according to their different importance level. The gymnasium in the northernmost was for adults and great ceremonies were held in the main hall which has 1000 seat in the northwest corner. Middle Gymnasium was for teenagers, and Gymnasium in its south was for children.
