Further east, past the brown stone Orta Camii (1855), you’ll find the cute wooden Namık Kemal Evi, a small ethnographical museum built to commemorate Tekirdağ’s most famous son, who was born nearby. Kemal (1840–88) was a poet and advocate of national freedom, and had a strong influence on Atatürk, who called him ‘the father of my ideas’. The house is beautifully restored, and holds occasional craft markets in the garden.
