Turkey has a small but blossoming viniculture, carrying on the Ottoman-Greek wine-making tradition. Head to Urgup in Cappadocia or the idyllic Aegean Island if Bozcaada to taste-test. Elsewhere sarap (wine) is fairly average for the price but you can't go wrong if you stick with the main wine producers. Doluca and Kavaklidere. For whites try Kavaklidere's Kavak or Cankaya, or Doluca Nevsah and, for reds, Kavaklidere Ancyra. Angora is a passable cheapie that becomes more drinkable as the night wears on.
