If you are after cheap flights, the cheapest routes between Europe and Istanbul are flying through Germany to Turkey and with EasyJet which flies between London(Luton) and Istanbul and Switzerland (Basel) and Istanbul. Sometimes you can also find them by booking on less-usual airlines eg. Cyprus Turkish Airlines and Azerbaijan Airlines. Some airlines offer student fares too. Otherwise Turkey is not the best destination for special deals.

It is a good idea to book at least two months in advance for flights to/from Turkey if you plan to arrive in the country anytime from early April until late August. Flights quoted in this part are for peak season and include airport taxes.
